MIDSUMMER PEP TALK

As my head hit my pillow, it dawned on me that I had only 10 more summers with my oldest child. This realization jarred me a bit and then ignited me.

Ten seems so little and yet also feels vast and full of opportunity.

I began to think through what I’d like the next ten summers to look like. Are their specific trips I wanted to plan? Places to visit? People we wanted to invest in? Educational tie ins?

I then thought through the final weeks of THIS summer and what I’d intentionally like to see happen. Do we need a final family outing? One last ice-cream trip? What will be our final summer read?

All in all, I thought about being intentional. How can I be sure that these last few weeks of summer are filled with what matters most to us? What brings us life and restores us? What are some possible long-term goals?

God willing, I have 10 summers to pour all I have into my family of four and I really want them to count. I want them to be worthwhile and meaningful, full of growth and memories.

As we hit mid-summer, here are some things to think through:

  • What’s working this summer and feels good?

  • What would you like to see different?

  • What would your ideal end of summer look like? What part of this can become your reality?

  • Does your schedule reflect what matters most? If not, what would you like to add? What would you like to remove?

This half summer has been a gift, a learning curve, one full of camps and activities. We let loose and broke some Madden rules! It was fun and much needed. I am now regrouping, reflecting and looking forward to the intentional last half of summer…knowing that in 4 weeks, I have only 10 left.

I am thankful that I was jarred. And, that that led to ignition.
